OUR PHILOSOPHY

Huckleberry teachers practice the Cedarsong Way® Forest Kindergarten Teaching Method, developed by environmental educator Erin Kenny.

We value our commitment to entirely outdoor nature immersion - which we define as “a sense of timelessness in nature”. Huckleberry teachers foster a safe, attuned environment for children to immerse in child-inspired nature play, engaging in a variety of unstructured learning experiences: risky challenges, rich sensory exploration, imaginative peer play, building and project play, storytelling, fine motor skills practice, gross motor input, and more.

Nature Immersion

We believe that children, especially those between the ages of 2 and 6, learn best through direct experience with the natural world.

Our goal is to tap into the children’s sense of wonder about the natural world by modeling curiosity and gratitude.

We model respect for all living beings and demonstrate how to tend to the earth and to each other with compassion & heart-listening.

Our teachings flow organically from what nature presents us with each day — like a worm digging in the soil, or discovering a fresh baby nettle that appeared overnight.

Our teachers tune into the root needs & desires behind behavior in order for children to feel seen, valued, and energetically nourished.
